Perhaps there has been a change since the time of your post. For example:

$ uname -orv
1.0.17(0.48/3/2) 2011-04-24 23:39 Msys

$ perl -e ‘print $ARGV[0], “\n”‘ ‘/c/xxx:/c/yyy’
/c/xxx:/c/yyy

$ echo ‘/c/xxx:/c/yyy’
/c/xxx:/c/yyy
